My biggest achievement since joining RLC has been my career growth. I joined as a Machinist, then progressed to Team Leader and Assistant Engineer. Over the years I have gained valuable technical knowledge, leadership skills and experience in handling different responsibilities.

I chose RLC because of the good reputation through people I know who already work there.  I liked the idea of working on machines which required a focus on tolerance and precision and so the apprenticeship was perfect for me.

I joined RLC three years ago as an apprentice and have recently completed my apprenticeship. I am now working as a Process Operator in Treatments. I’ve always had an interest in cars and spent many summers helping my grandad and uncle in their garage, which sparked my passion for engineering.

After finishing school, I knew it was the career path I wanted to pursue. I heard great things about Langford Lodge from someone who worked there, so I applied for an apprenticeship and was delighted to be successful.

I enjoy working at RLC and have felt part of the team from day one. The support of my colleagues has helped me learn a great deal about the treatment processes and equipment, while also building my confidence.

Achieving my Level 3 Diploma in Engineering is one of my proudest accomplishments since joining RLC. The apprenticeship has helped me develop both professionally and personally, building my confidence, independence, and ability to adapt to new environments and meet new people.

I made the decision to join RLC, as I was keen to work in the aerospace industry, to broaden and build upon my existing skill set.  I really wanted to challenge myself. My biggest achievement to date is being promoted from a Machine Operator to a Development Engineer.

You really are not just a number at RLC. The company looks after the employees well and I can juggle work life balance alongside career progression.

I started my career at RLC 21 years ago as a craft apprentice, working on the shopfloor as a machine setter/operator. I chose RLC because of its aerospace connection, the complex components being produced and the new technology being used at the time.

In 2009, I completed my apprenticeship with distinction at HNC level, winning both Northwest Machine Setting Apprentice of the Year and Northwest Overall Apprentice of the Year. I also won the Start Lean award at the Manufacturing Institute, which gave me valuable experience that stayed with me as I moved into manufacturing engineering.

Since becoming a manufacturing engineer in 2013, I’ve had the opportunity to work on major projects and see the business grow. I played a key role in expanding the PW IBR value stream from four machines to 13, including machine approvals in Germany and a complete redesign of the manufacturing methods.

Another major milestone was helping bring the MTU Blisk value stream into RLC. This involved developing the business case, acquiring and testing machines, and working with suppliers in Germany. One of my proudest moments was producing the first MTU Blisk at RLC using Grob machines in Germany, then hand-delivering it to MTU in Munich. After months of hard work, late nights and time away from home, it was rewarding to see the project come together.

Now, as Engineering Manager, I’m leading the PW IBR team through production growth and the introduction of a major cost reduction project. Leading a team has been a long-term ambition of mine, and working at RLC has allowed me to achieve it.

I believe the main reason I’ve stayed at RLC is the variety of work and the opportunities to make a real difference to the business. If you want accountability and empowerment, and have the right mindset, it’s a great place to work.

I joined RLC over 12 years ago.  I am very selective about which companies I choose to work for, but I was really happy to join RLC because of how well recognised they are within the aerospace sector.

I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at RLC.  Over the years I have truly been on a learning journey and been able to build my experience.  Moving around different value streams has given me a lot of variety, opportunity and recognition.

One of my memorable projects was setting up a full assembly line from scratch and being given the opportunity to learn and become an expert.  This in turn gave me further opportunities and experiences, as I have been able to train others and transfer my knowledge, both of which have given me a great sense of pride.

I have been involved in different projects, which have involved me presenting to Senior Leaders within the business, including the CEO.

I am really excited about the future and working with other colleagues across digitisation and automation, to improve productivity and reduce cycle times, which will help to continue to drive the success of the business into the future.

There is always an opportunity to learn in RLC and to come up with new and exciting ways to support manufacturing production driven needs and requirements.

I want to make a difference and RLC allows me to achieve that goal in a supportive, open and trusting environment within which I feel listened to.

I joined RLC in 2015, having always heard really positive things about the company, particularly around its culture and job security. Those were the main reasons I wanted to join, and over the years I’ve found that the reality has lived up to what I had heard.

Working at RLC has given me a real opportunity to develop and progress. I started on a temporary contract before progressing to Working Team Leader and was then given the opportunity to step into a Development Value Stream Manager role. I successfully completed that development opportunity and now hold the VSM position on a full-time basis. The support, training/qualifications, and on-the-job experience I’ve received along the way, have been a big part of that progression.

One of my biggest achievements has been moving into ATC and taking on the challenge of significantly increasing output within the department. This involved building the team, improving and streamlining processes, driving continuous improvement and ultimately delivering the level of output required by the business. Seeing the team develop and achieve what we set out to do has been extremely rewarding.

A particular highlight for me was having the privilege of walking our owner, Sarah Holt, around the business, alongside other members of the Board and showcasing what the team and I had achieved within ATC. That was a real moment of pride and probably my biggest highlight since joining RLC.

I would absolutely recommend RLC. It has provided me with security for myself and my family, but also the opportunity to grow, develop and be involved in some genuinely exciting work. The type of work we do is second to none, there is a real focus on innovation, and no two days are the same. The pace and variety keep things exciting, and that’s something I really enjoy about working here.

Over the course of 40 years, there have been many achievements that I am proud of. My personal growth is high on the list, particularly completing my studies while working full-time and raising a young child. Professionally, one of my most significant achievements was transferring the company’s financial processes onto our central ERP system, which represented a fundamental improvement in the way we worked.

Being part of the Leadership Team has been particularly exciting and personally fulfilling. It has given me the autonomy to contribute to important decisions, become involved in shaping the direction of the business and make a meaningful impact on the company’s continued success. Having the opportunity to influence positive change and see the results of our collective efforts has been highly motivating.

After so many years with RLC, I am proud to recommend it as a place where the work genuinely matters. Knowing that the components we manufacture play a part in products that help save lives gives us a real sense of purpose and pride. What makes RLC especially rewarding, though, is the people: there is a warm, welcoming and collaborative culture where colleagues support one another and work together to make a difference.

I have also always valued the way the company looks after its people. RLC takes both physical and mental wellbeing seriously, maintaining a safe working environment and supporting initiatives that help colleagues feel cared for. I chose to work at RLC as I believed it would allow me to develop the widest range of skills and offer the most interesting work available on the island, compared to other engineering companies.

The culture is very welcoming, and everyone has been very open to sharing their knowledge.  The company is actively involved in wanting to develop apprentices. I expressed an interest in engineering and have been given plenty of opportunities to work with our team of engineers and currently spend 1 day a week there.

My results in college, including being nominated for an IET student award, have been enhanced by the amount of support and encouragement I have received from the team here at Ronaldsway.

I am excited to have been involved in the year 2, level 4 project based on reliability and repeatability, where I focused on our RA2 machining section.  This has led to improvements in the reliability of the manufacturing processes on these machines.

I would highly recommend RLC because I feel that an apprentice has so much to learn due to the variety of products and the processes on offer.  It has supplemented my understanding of engineering from the theoretical side, through to the practical application of this learning.

My background is in Mechatronic Engineering, and I wanted to build a career combining technical knowledge with business and commercial decision-making. RLC stood out as an opportunity to gain manufacturing experience while developing my procurement and supply chain skills.

Since joining RLC, I’ve taken on increasing responsibility across purchasing, inventory management and supplier engagement. The business has also supported my ongoing CIPS studies, allowing me to apply what I learn to my day-to-day role. Working with colleagues across procurement, engineering, stores and operations has helped me build my knowledge and confidence.

One of my biggest achievements has been the progress I’ve made during my first year, moving from learning the role to independently managing purchasing and inventory activities. I’ve also taken ownership of the weekly Business Continuity meeting, supported supplier engagement and helped improve inventory management processes. Receiving a company recognition award was another highlight.

I’ve particularly enjoyed working on projects such as the Olmar spares project, alongside supplier meetings and cost-saving and benchmarking activities. These opportunities have allowed me to work across departments and apply my CIPS learning to real procurement decisions.

I would recommend RLC to anyone looking to build a career in manufacturing, procurement or supply chain. The opportunity to gain practical experience, take on responsibility and work towards professional qualifications has helped me develop significantly during my first year.

I chose to work at RLC because of its reputation as a high-tech aerospace manufacturing company. Having now been here for five months, I’m pleased to have joined the team and found a role that I genuinely enjoy.

I’m happy coming to work each morning, and it doesn’t feel like a chore. I received great training and have developed the skills and confidence to become an expert in my role. I’ve also had the opportunity to be trained in two processes, which has broadened my experience and supported my development.

Although I’ve only recently joined the company, I’m proud to have completed my training period, received my quality stamp and built great relationships with my team. I’ve also received positive feedback about my personality around the site, which has been encouraging as I settle into the business.

My role doesn’t involve a lot of exposure to projects because of the process I work in, but I really enjoy the work I do and take satisfaction in my day-to-day responsibilities.
